    Sure, this will work. It has also been suggested to use o- rings on the
    fasteners or those little rubbery plastic sticky dots they sell to put on the
    bottom of things you put on the coffee table. Anything that will insure that a
    significant amount of bedding will remain to form the gasket. By significant I
    mean about an eighth inch.

    The wrong thing is to squish all or most of the bedding out. This will leave
    a very thin gasket so that the slightest movement of the object will break
    the adhesive seal of the bedding material and allow water to wick in.
