Before the little tiny cell phones, we had portable phones with big
lead batteries. They were often 'housed' in a notebook type
arrangements or carried in a bag. Thus bag phone.
I have one that is in a leather zipped folder a little smaller than a
laptop, which I carry in a bag. I hook it up to an external antenna
on the boat, and plug it into the 12V system (just like in a car) and
it works really well where my tiny little phone doesn't get any
signal.
The only problem is - those phones are analog phones and the phone
companies don't give you a real good deal on minutes and really want
you to switch to digital.
