    Regarding orientation of berth: our Morgan 46 had the
    aft double bed oriented athwartship against the
    transom. I liked it because we didn't roll. Only
    downside was, depending on the tack and degree of
    heel, I might have to remake the bed to swap the "top"
    and the "bottom". Otherwise our heads would be lower
    than our feet! In really rough seas (70 knot winds and
    30 foot seas), we would slightly slide back and forth.
    Had visions of velcro pj's! Annoyed him more than me.
    But on a power boat I guess all of this would be less
    of a problem, if any.
