What I did was about the same. Although I use a 5 watt "bag" phone.
with a external antenna. The antenna is atop the mast, and gives excellent
coverage. Running coastal, i have never been out of service range.
We have played with the idea of sat/internet access. Much like what the
truckers use. But Im told one has to be dockside to use it.
