My Sprint phone with Vision service can be used as a modem - they claim
19,200 throughput and there's no per-minute charge and no per-byte
charge... the Vision thing is an extra $10/month - and the funny thing
is, if you buy the special cell modem card for your laptop, they charge
you per byte, but not if you just run a cable from your phone. Silly,
really.

Subject: lv-ab: business on board
I'm planning to move my business ( and me) on board this summer. I use a
computer somewhat over the internet, just text . How do I use a cell
phone to hook up to the internet at the dock. I know this has been
discussed but I think mostly from an offshore perspective.
What hardware do I need?
Do I need a special cell phone?
What kind of speed can I expect.? currently using AOL via phone lines
that goes along at 16000 somethings per something.
I've talked to Verizon, my current supplier without very satisfactory
results. All they do is say "sure" a little to quickly and then try to
upgrade me to 10000 mniutes a month. LOL
Anybody live on a cat above 40o north. how do you heat it. I'm thinking
of selling my 37 foot cutter and buying a Gemini. The cutter heats up
just fine with two DeLonge oil filled readiators and a fan.
