I just saw the most bizarre technique discussed as a feature
article in the March 2003 issue National Fisherman [commercial
fishing] Magazine

described a group of Gulf Coast fisherman who were sheathing 40 to 60
foot wooden boats with fiberglass and polyester resin over a layer of
5200. The 5200 was applied to the hull with masonry trowels. The
glass and resin was applied before the 5200 had cured.
