I guess the difference at Oyster Bay is that they heavily discount
everything in their store or ordered from manufacturer's catalog. I
remember years ago I was told that everything there or ordered through their
is marked up 10% over their costs and that's that. While they can't beat
the discounters (West, Defenders, etc) on electronics due to no volume
discounts, their extremely competitive on everything else. I forget the
exact numbers but I remember they beat the pants off of West and Defenders
when it came to fittings, paint, fittings (elbows, hose fittings, stuff like
that). The result is that while a lot of people like to do most of their
own work they always buy through the yard store.
