I would second what Larry says. A friend tried to go out an anchor
somewhere overnight near Charleston. THe tide went down and they
discovered that they were aground, and as it went farther down the
boat lay down in the mud. Big tides in that area. The first year we
went down, we heard over and over about people that were aground and
were having to wait for the tide to come up to get off. Saw some of
them that had strayed off the channel too.

I've also seen people anchored behind the island in Elliot's Cut just
past the Wappoo Creek Bridge, but it wouldn't be close to Mt.
Pleasant. There's also an anchorage up by Goat Island I think, but I
wouldn't try it myself. And it's not really close to Mt Pleasant.

Why do you want to be close to Mt. Pleasant?
Charleston Harbor Marina has weekly rates which aren't too bad.
When we go to Charleston we are usually visiting our son who lives in
Summerville. The Ashley River bridge being only 55 feet is a BIT PITA
because that would be ideal. We've stayed at Charleston Harbor
Marina, Buzzard's Roost, Isle of Palms, and Charleston Maritime
Center.
Charleston Maritime Center has a weekly rate and a discount for Boat
US members, and is right on the CARTA bus route. I don't know if you
could dinghy over to Mt. Pleasant or not - it is right across the
river. Maybe if you had a dinghy like White Rabbit you could manage
it.
