What happens if you leave Spain to circumnavigate without any licenses? Do
they throw you in jail when you come back?

Hi Patricio and others
("What is the next step, past Capitan de Yachte, equivalent too a USCG
OUPV ( 6 passenger or less, Captains License) ((FIRST step, AFTER Capitan de
Yachte, examination))??").
There is no next step after Capitan de Yate, (Maximum recreational title
and about 3 years of strong study) with this title you are allowed to
circumnavigate and the number of persons on board is not limited by the
title but by the plans and characteristics of the boat designed by the Naval
Architect and after approved by the Naval Architects
Association before building the boat.
("Also curious, about the Spanish interpretation of a "sailor" ("SAIL"
implied, vs a motor boat/vessel distinction).")
Well maybe because in the early times the people were moving on the sea
with oars before than sails comes, in spanish (Latin) we don't make any
difference between motor or sail (also do not fight against each other like
in other places) therefore we don't apply the word sailor (hombre/mujer de
vela) but the word Marinero (Mar = Sea) (inero = Lor = in this case
belonging to the sea) (sealor).
Now we can apply a pray for the 7 high very high seas Marineros/sailors
losted today when attempting to berth
("I've heard Barco de viento. (boat of wind, literally) Is this an
accurate description?)
No, you can say Barco de Viento (Sailboat) but it will sound very bad,
the correct word for a sailing boat
is "Velero" (Sailboat) (alltough she has a small motor on board but the
motor is only for little use).
If the boat has a big motor and also sails and use one or both of them,
then the correct word to be applied is "Motovelero" .
Wishing you all my very best
Luis (Patron de Yate)
