I purchased and installed two dorade boxes from Mariners Hardware. I used their round ones (Newport Dorades in teak) for various reasons including aesthetics and very small footprint. I needed to custom cut the bottom to meet my deck camber and to create the drainage holes. I installed them over their low profile mushroom vent elevated by their deck ring. I've got rather large round cowl vents on the top. The installation came out very nice except I wish I used their taller cast mushrooms. I sized everything the same (4") and there isn't any real space for the water to lay inside the box. Sounds like a good thing, but I still get some dripping insde in real bad rain storms. I think taller mushrooms and no deck ring would have been a better way to go.
I also bought a dorade box from Thai Teak Marine (along with several other of their products). I actually customized it to make it an instrument housing (for three displays) at my helm station. Their products are beautiful. Most things are in kit form so you need some wood working skills to assemble them (think waterproof wood glue). They package things amazingly tight (I thought a whole box got lost, but it was all there). My only complaint with doing business with them was about the shipping. I chose the cheapest shipping method (SAL) which amounts to standby air from thailand and standby truck from port. Shipping that way took about 1 month (a little more if memory serves). Overall a good experience.

| I found a company on the web that makes Dorades.
www.marinershardware.com
| (no affiliation) they have a number of dorades, one of which is square
and
| has a smaller footprint than the classic rectangular dorade. I assume
it
| has a baffle system, but they don't clarify. Has anyone used such a
| device. Do they work ok? The small footprint is attractive.

I am considering buying boxes from Thai Teak Marine -
http://www.thaiteakmarine.com/ - nice prices, just have to get a quote
on the shipping.
