    A,

Take my word for it, you won't find ANY live-aboard marinas in Venice, FL. In fact, live-aboard marinas south of Sarasota are few and far between. The only good-sized marina for live-aboards, south of Sarasota, is a place called Burnt Store Marina. It's just south of Punta Gorda. To make matters worse, the cost of dock space in the area has risen to $12/ft or higher with no amenities. We had to take our Hunter out of the water to afford to keep it.

Bradenton does have a couple small live-aboard marinas. The costs are typical for the area and the one I'm thinking of (Twin Dolphins Marina) has fair amenities. This is a city-type environment.

The East coast of FL is a nightmare of boat (and other traffic). Although there are live-aboard places, the congestion (and plain rude powerboaters) would make life miserable. Oh yes, it IS expensive as well.

Cocoa Beach offers a great marina for live-aboards. It's subsidized, so the cost are somewhat better than other places. Did I mention that it's usually very full of boaters. Still, a nice place.

    Hi Joe,

Sarasota is gorgeous, but you'll likely find cheaper marinas in Venice or Bradenton. Plenty of cool things to do in Sarasota. I lived there for 3 years while going to college and loved it.

Tampa is too big of a city. I personally don't like it.

    W. Palm is very expensive, but it's a lively town. I find the east coast of Fl to be too busy for my lay back style. To Cocoa Beach I never been to. But with a name like that can't be too bad.

San Juan is nice to load the boat before going cruising. St. John is tiny but in a great sailing area.

I would go with either St. John or Sarasota.

You are a very lucky man.

    Best of luck,
    Alfredo
