after reading through their site (at http://www.tele-sea.com), i think
    WP article
    (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A3549-2003Jan2.html) was
a little misleading... it looks like the receiving user needs to
install the long, high-gain antenna shown in the WP photo, and from
there the user's laptop can link via ethernet (wire) or 802.11
    wireless.

their site doesn't state a price, but if the WP's stated price of
$500/mo is correct, i'd have a difficult time justifying that to be
able to surf the web while anchored out in the bay. most liveaboards
like me who have a net connection addiction problem have been able to
get DSL or cable modem dockside. i still mourn the loss of ricochet,
they died just as i was moving aboard, and would have been the perfect
solution, only slightly more $ than DSL, and i could have 128K net
    while anchored out.

tele-sea seems like an interesting company in any case. once they get
more of the coastline lit, i could see well-heeled yachties buying the
service to be able to get better weather info while underway. but
gambling boats do seem like the ready-made market for them. noticed
they have quite a few jobs listed... might be an interesting way to
have a 'marine-related' job for someone on this list.
