All of the Microsoft email programs (Outlook, Outlook Express, Entourage
anyway) allow you to essentially skip long messages and all attachments,
while retaining the option to go back and fully DL those you choose.
Go to TOOLS, ACCOUNTS, open the account you use, click OPTIONS in the
resulting dialog box, look down to SERVER OPTIONS and click the box for:
"Partially receive messages over 5 K". 5 being the lowest value
possible.
Now you are set to DL only very small messages, hugely reducing your
connection time. If you want to fully DL a message after reviewing the
partial one, simply click on "Get full message" at the top of the
partial message and it will DL it in full next time you go online. BTW,
you can also set the software to dial, DL, and disconnect all by
itself...also saying cellphone time...but that's another email.

Another option is to eliminate the spam. I use a program called
MailWasher a very cheap shareware that does an excellent job...this is
not a pitch but its available at.... www.mailwasher.net
