I've found no requirement for straight-weight oils for my 2 stroke diesels.
I've used the same oil that truck diesels use for 14 years now so it isn't
"absolutely inflexible".
They do NOT intentionally or UNintentionally consume any more oil that a 4
stroke diesel. Our engines do not require any oil to be added between
regular oil changes and we are not aware of any ash specifications.
We do use good quality oil for the sake of preserving the engines but the
specifications are no different than the oil for 4 stroke diesels.
