    Rick:

I use the ham pactor II for non-business type contacts. Usually w6im. But
there are like stations all over the world, perhaps a couple hundred gateway
    stations.

Even though I am in the San Francisco area, I can not always get Palo Alto.
I have to carefully choose my frequency and station according to
propagation. Having been a ham since 1952 helps me with that.

New cruisers might experience problems due infamiliarity with propagation.

BUT....it does provide an inexpensive way to send and rec email at
sea....and when combined with the ham gateway stations....it's ok.

No where as good as a land based dial-up...but good.

    Cruisin' Susan
