If your service provider and your mail client supports IMAP
(Internet Message Access Protocol) this is possible.
The messages stay on the server and all you download is
the message headers. At that point you have the option of
deleting the message without downloading or viewing the message.
This is especially effevtive killing spam and messages with large
attachments; we all have friends that think you just *have* to
see the picture of the cat sitting on the back of a dog ;)
Of course rule number one is to set your own mail to 'Plain Text'
    format.

I totally agree with Grandma Rosalie,

I've just returned from 19 months out and during this our third long
distance cruise, the cost of communication had become a significant
monthly amount. Besides pocketmail (i wouldn't cruise without it) I
used a modem hookup through my cell phone. worked very well as long as
one was along the usa coast. With cellphone and pocketmail our bill was
well over $100.00 per month. This quickly precludes having
subscriptions to any form of lists.

Since one quickly gets irritated when you get a bunch of junk mail that
takes hours to download, I've often wondered why email services don't
allow you to view the headers first before downloading your email.
That would go a long way to eliminate the junk in you mailbox. Is there
    away to do this?

Fellow cruisers are always the best knowledge out there, hence the
ritual of sundowners, started how many thousands of years ago?

    sea u,
