Now, do I dump it, or take it?
If so, anyone have experience with Mexico and a shotgun?
I have a dog an parrot...anyone have first hand experience with them?

I don't have any personal experience with either your dog or parrot.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Otherwise...
From Cornell's 2nd edition of World Cruising Guide... "The only guns
allowed in Mexico are sporting guns which must have a valid Mexican
hunting license, obtained in advance. Other firearms must have a permit,
and be declared to the authorities on arrival, who will keep them in
custody until departure."
Penalties for illegal guns are severe, including seizure of the yacht
and imprisonment of the captain. I'd leave the shotgun at home.
Also, it mentions that animals require a veterinary health certificate,
and cats and dogs also require an anti-rabies vaccination certificate.
Both certificates must be shown to a Mexican consul to obtain an import
permit for the animals. Doesn't say anything about parrots.
Remember that you will need a fishing license for the boat, any dinghy,
and each crew member.
I'd suggest contacting a Mexican consulate near you to get the straight
scoop, forms, fees, etc.
Seems like I saw that Cornell's World Cruising Guide was going online
somewhere, but I can't seem to find the link. Maybe someone else has it?
