My Engel 45 kicks up to 3 amps when starting then settles to 2 amps when
    running.

My Engel 45 was $585 plus $28 shipping and $29.10 sales tax from Deep Creek.
Since it was shipped to an address in Florida I must conclude it was shipped
to me from within Florida and not from Deep Creek in Nashville.

We have no trouble keeping ice cream hard, but I think we are loosing some of
    the liquid oxygen.

Be aware that the Engel 45 has about 38 quarts of food capacity. I measured
it myself but cannot put my hands on my notes at this time. The sellers
describe the interior capacity with the evaporator, bottom pad and food
    basket removed.
