    Paul:

    The best (fastest) way to do e-mail is with a tri mode phone and using a
    cable only with a digital connection. Your Verizon phone will work in the
    Bahamas because they are one of the few with a roaming agreement but the
    connections are all analog. So your data cable will not work. The only work
    around is to get an old style modem and cable setup for your phone.

    Most islands have a Batelco office where you can hook up your computer to
    get e-mail but it is a pain. You can also get an adapter that will couple
    your computer modem to a pay phone.
