WOW! Interesting comments. Now, here's the rest of the story.
It's an Italian boat, designed and made in Italy. The owner purchased it
four months ago new, but the boat was made in 2000. It does not have an
inverter in it! The European designers felt, if you want AC power, run the
generator.
The generator is in a sound proofed case in a sound proofed engine room with
the exhaust located under the water line. I've never heard anything
quieter. But that's not the point. Is it the owner or the boat
manufacturer "responsible for noise"?
We have 4 8Ds and one group 27p 27. There is no room for additional
batteries. The design of the boat is all about form and speed not about
being practical. If you saw the lack of handholds inside the boat, you'd
laugh. I delivered it from Seattle and walking in the boat in a seaway
under power was and still is a real challenge. We are making lots of
practical changes to make the boat more reliable and safer. Not much you
can do to quiet down a pair of Caterpillar 3208's nor make the smoke go away
on start up.
All these rude statements about sticking potatoes up my genset tailpipe
should be directed at the manufacturers if you need to be rude to someone.
Of course if you are so unstable as to perpetrate a criminal act on anyone's
vessel, you will find yourself in front of a federal judge, who will
sentence you appropriately - unless you are really good. Who knows what
security systems people have on board really sophisticated vessels?
So, get a grip. Have reasonable expectations. And everyone live with
everyone in peace and harmony. Remember, I still live on my Newport 41
sailboat. If I want peace and quiet, I sail her to an anchorage that I know
will be quiet - I don't sail her to Avalon.

Judging by the comments so far I think those people missed the essential
point of the article - if
they bothered to read it at all.
The CNN story dealt with people's perception of social manners and how we
deal with each
other. The concensus being that as a society we seem to have less and less
regard for our
fellow human beings and are increasingly selfish and self centered in our
activity.
Having money doesn't automatically entitle that person to any special rights
over others.
That concept died with the feudal system.
Please note that the website was addressed as http://europe.cnn.com
It may come as a shock to many Americans but the rest of the world does not
necesarily view
them in the same light as they view themselves.
