    Arild,

The article may have been in the European edition of CNN, but it was an
American survey of Americans. The survey stated that Americans themselves
thought other Americans were rude. I would really like to see a survey of
Americans from non-Americans. I bet that would be something indeed!

Judging by the comments so far I think those people missed the essential
point of the article - if
they bothered to read it at all.

The CNN story dealt with people's perception of social manners and how we
    deal with each
other. The concensus being that as a society we seem to have less and less
    regard for our
fellow human beings and are increasingly selfish and self centered in our
    activity.
Having money doesn't automatically entitle that person to any special rights
    over others.
That concept died with the feudal system.
Please note that the website was addressed as http://europe.cnn.com
It may come as a shock to many Americans but the rest of the world does not
    necesarily view
them in the same light as they view themselves.

    Regards
    Arild
