Thanks, Karl, well stated.
Don't forget that those living on the boat with the genset are closer to the
noise than you are. Any modern boat will have the maximum amount and
quality of noise suppression already installed on the genset for passenger
comfort.
Personally I find the noise from the wind generators on the "run silent"
boats is more annoying than the purr of a generator.
