    What's rude about it?

A public anchorage is not your own private yacht club.

    Get over yourselves.

I have AC on my boat and if I want to run it, the AC is up. I shut it down
if I am comfortable with the AC off overnight, primarily to save the wear
and tear on the unit more than anything else.

It isn't about being rude. Its about having a reasonable set of
    expectations.

Expecting complete quiet on the water, in a public place, is not reasonable
any more than telling people to "shut up" in a shopping mall is.
