    For what it is worth,

I skipper an Azimut 46, a million dollar twin diesel boat that looks like a
Ferrari on the water with two air conditioners and a 12.5 kw generator. She
has TV's, stereos, fridge, water maker, and much more on AC. The batteries
might last 6 hours with the DC light, blower and pumps on. The owner
recently purchased a $900 expresso machine (AC powered). If anyone has the
expectation of a boat equipped like this (and don't kid yourself, there are
many in the world) of turning off their genset at night, you're dreaming.

The article above did not mention gensets in particular, but it did mention
isolation through watching television. Turn the genset and the television
off. It also mentioned the attitude, expressed by some on this list, which
anything one does is okay as long as one is happy. JD?
