    Dear list -

Things have been slowly oozing along since we last wrote the list to tell of
our utter lust for a particular steel boat in the Netherlands.

We've been in contact with a number of brokers over there, and have seen
(well, pictures at least ..) some very interesting vessels indeed - try
www.sander-doeve.nl who has a very good site with detailed specifications
and excellent pictures. Warning! can cause intense dissatisfaction with your
current situation in some cases ....

We've also had a very warm welcome extended to us by both John Sexton and
Sam Cringely who subscribe to the list from there - we're looking forward to
some great eating and boat talk. Our thanks in advance to them for the
hospitality, and a tip of the hat to our fearless list-master for this most
excellent group. Yes, Stephan, some good deeds do go unpunished.

We have roughly 20 boats to look at over a ten day period, so this is going
to be somewhat of a blitz - hopefully, we'll survive.

In order to handle this mass of boats, we've drawn up three evaluation
    sheets, roughly sorted
by CE service ratings - class 'A' for offshore passagemaker, class 'B' for
coastal cruising, and class 'C' for inland or canal only. Ross Fleming from
the list kindly provided his Access Database, and Excel spreadsheet which he
used when searching, and we greedily stole his ideas.

Our very crude idea is that we're going to cruise in Europe for at least a
year, and then bring a class 'A' boat across the Atlantic ourselves, ship a
class 'B' boat back to Seattle, or simply re-sell a class 'C' boat in Europe
    and return home.

For those that are interested, we've posted our sheets at:

    http://communities.msn.com/mvnonchalant/files.msnw

They're about 120Kb each in .RTF (Rich Text Format) which should be readable
by most word processing programs - we'd appreciate any comments folks might
    have.

Wish us luck, we're headed over on Wednesday...

    Cheers

    Jim
    MY 'Nonchalant'
