Wow, Fred.
We had our laptop hooked up to our phone all the way down the eastern
seaboard and NEVER had to go more than a day to hit a tower that would
connect us right up.
As a matter of fact, we started in Cleveland Ohio and came all the way to
Jacksonville using that setup.
I have no idea what the discrepancy is, but ours worked just fine.
