I thought I'd take a few minutes and share my experience with a new
system I installed. I recently read that the Jabsco Sensor-Max VSD was
being hyped at the boat shows, as a great fresh water pressure system.
I have been using a Raritan Super Galley Mate with the accumulator tank.
This has been unsatisfactory for me for some time. I had it set up to
run between 10 and 25 PSI (25 is about maxed out). Problems with it are
NOISY, water pressure fluctuates as the pump cycles, this is supposed to
be good for 5 GPM but when I use 2 facets (both hot and cold) pressure
dropped big time. Did I mention this thing was noisy?
Any ways, I had this gift certificate for WM (Xmas gift from the
Admiral), went and bought the VSD. Model 31755 (the bigger one) rated
for 45 PSI and 4.5 GPM. ($259.00)
Took the Galley Mate out and mounted up the VSD. This unit is about
1/5th the size of the GM! I was pleasantly surprised to find a suction
side strainer included with the pump! Got it wired and plumbed.
Wow! I can operate all 4 facets, both hot and cold with a good steady
pressure from all of them at once! With all four going, its burning
about 9 amps. With one facet open it burns less then 3 amps. As you open
more facets or increase the water flow you can hear the pump speeding
up, reduce the flow and the pump slows up. As for the noise level, its
quiet, 1/10th the level of the GM. With just the galley facet on you
hardly hear it. The pump is rated to run dry without damage.
Jabsco puts a 3 year warranty on the pump! No switch, points or contacts
and is ignition protected.
Very, very pleased with this purchase.
No financial interest in Jabsco, just one happy customer.
