An alternator generates 3 phase full way, variable frequency, AC power
that is then fed to a 3 phase, full wave diode bridge.
The output of the bridge is DC with a ripple; however, when connected to
a large house battery bank, which is really just a humongous capacitor,
the ripple gets lost in the wash for most applications.
As far as your puter is concerned, be gutsy and check it out.
A 2nd possibility.
A dedicated battery with a small solar cell to maintain it.
