A few of you have misunderstood this. As I said in the original message, the Toshiba has _NO_ external power brick. The AC adapter is _INSIDE_ the computer and the AC cord is connected direct to the back of the computer. There is nowhere to connect DC. The battery pack in the computer is 12V.
As I said in my last message, I was successful in ripping open the battery pack and connecting 12V DC from the house battery direct to the plus and minus connectors inside the empty battery shell, but I am worried about spikes from the alternator, fridge, starter motor etc, so I reckon I need to use a separate 12V source, i.e. a 12V lead acid battery that is not connected to any of my other consumers.
The big question now is how to charge that battery. I don't expect to use the computer 24 hours a day and certainly have no need for it on the open ocean, but I would like to have enough oomph to run it whenever I need it without any worries.
