A standard 12-volt battery measures at 13-plus volts when fully charged. Your
computer may have choked on the higher voltage. An electronics store should
be able to fix you up with something that will make your 12-volt battery
actually give you 12 volts.
You might also consider increasing the size of your battery bank so as to
make the inverter viable.
