I need to disagree about prices in Bahamas. I just returned from the Abacos
and am going back 3/14. The only thing that was a LOT more expensive was
ice at $3.50-$4.50 a bag. (I am returning with a new Engel fridge). Also,
Laundromats were $2-10 for wash&dry, at Treasure Cay the washer lady does it
for you for $6.50. Gas was $3.00, Diesel $2.00, but at 15 miles between
stops it did not add up. Other items are possibly 30% more, but there is no
7% sales tax like here, so that helps. Slips averaged $.75/ft, I was able
to arrange a month for $325 off season at Treasure Cay. Anchorages are
usually avail free, Treasure Cay charges $8, but that includes use of
showers, water, pool. Car rental for a day with bad weather was $75, we
split it with a neighbor. At West End, Old Bahama Bay Marina was $51 for
my 32' slip, BUT use of all their water toys was free, I had a ball on their
brand new Hobie Cats! There are some excellent repair yards at Green
Turtle, Hope Town and ManOwar. Excellent hardware stores are at Marsh
Harbor and ManOwar. Wonderful Bahamian bread is $2.25 at the bakery, or
might be marked up to $4 at the marina. New Zealand butter and cheese is
half of US prices. If you look around, you can get a nice restaurant meal
for $11-16, I recommend Laura's Kitchen at Green Turtle, or the
Friday/Saturday BBQ at ManOwar. Lucaya market has lots of reasonable
restaurants. Beer is $4 at bars, $2 at stores, get Kalik Gold, it is
stronger, you won't need as much. Hard alcohol is cheaper than US, at Marsh
Harbor you can buy (3) 40oz bottles of Bacardi rum for $40, the Canadian I
was with said that only bought one at home. If you stop at Fox Town for
fuel, walk to the small store to the west and buy coconut rolls at $1.
(Yummy) Credit cards were mostly accepted, there were ATMs at Marsh
    Harbor, traveler's checks work.
ManOwar is the prettiest Island, all were great bicycling. It is a
wonderful country and it does not cost like Hawaii or Bermuda. It feels
VERY safe. I still need to make my fishing spear work for free fish.
Island hopping in the Abacos is calm water, much like an inland lake.
