Had the same problem with a Yanmar before I made a few modifications.
BTW, my Jabsco does a good job or did till it was stolen.

Why? Totally unnecessary.

Stick a tube that fits into your engine, then pump oil into an empty
gallon milk jug, one stroke at a time.
Screw cap on milk jug, clean pump with a few paper towels, put pump with
hoses back in gallon plastic storage can with lid that seals, so any oil
remaining in pump can't escape.
Get cold beer, grab milk jug with used oil and head for approved
collection point for the oil.
Return to boat for more cold beer.
Sorry you had trouble, but this job is not rocket science.
