I'm not familiar with the specifics of the Whale pump, but a big advantage
of the Sealand pumps is that they can be completely disassembled and
rebuilt instead of throwing them away when they break. Spare parts can be
readily ordered from the company and many shops that specialize in marine
sanitation will stock the more common parts. Check out

T-series pump. If only all vendors were that thorough with their products
and support.
