We have a Seagull IV water filter fitted as an extra faucet in the galley:

To quote the web site http://www.generalecology.com/index.html:

General Ecology water purifiers utilize our unique, proprietary "Structured Matrix" chemical-free technology to offer the highest level of water purification instantly without chemicals, pretreatment, double pumping or hold time.
General Ecology's water purifiers remove viruses, bacteria, and protozoa,
plus many organic and inorganic chemical and aesthetic contaminants at the
highest "purification" micron level (0.4 microns absolute) to provide
great tasting water while protecting against water related disease. First Need Deluxe Water Purifiers like all General Ecology Water Purifiers are certified to meet EPA Microbiological Purification Standard against cysts,
    bacteria AND virus!

This is the best way to go IMHO.

    Hey group,

I was buying bottled water for my drinking water. Then I
decided to just boil the water from my water tanks
that came from the dock water and let it cool
overnight for my drinking water. I don't have any
reason to doubt the quality of the dock/tap water
at the marina I'm currently docked (SF bay area). Maybe
me just being paranoid and for future cruising
    reference as well.

    Questions:

1- Is boiling water the most simple and cheapest way
    to purify drinking water?

2- Do any of those at the faucet water filters purify
the water to the same level or better than boiling
or bottled water (depending on how pure bottled water
is in the first place!)? I was thinking of one of those
PUR at the faucet with on/off switch for filtered/unfiltered.
Are there other good at the tap water purifiers? Anything
important I should look for in a at the tap water filter?
    Microns, what it filters, etc.?

3- What ways do any other list members on the more paranoid
side of the fence like me quality control their drinking water?

Thanks very much... for all your great answers in advance.
