The trawler we are in the process of buying uses the flybridge dinghy deck
for a potable water catchment area. The rain run-off flows to the two aft
corners where a short plastic hose (1') drains it through the deck, the
runoff is normally directed outboard of the transom until needed for adding
water to the tanks. Once the salt is rinsed off another longer hose is
attached by press fit to the short plastic(1') drain hose, the longer hose
goes through a filter that press fits into the potable water fill fitting.
It certainly is simple and easy to set up.
The current owner anchors out exclusively and indicates he has never needed
to go to a dock for water in his years of travel in the Bahamas. The water
tank is 300 gals.
It seems like a bold statement to me but I have no experience that suggests
I should challenge it. Guess we will find out for ourselves later.
