    Don't know the economics, but purifying it with iodine works well.
    Iodine is pretty cheap, and a lot less hassle than boiling it. Or were
    you talking about distilling it? Boiling won't get rid of a lot of
    chemical contaminants, just biological ones.

    I use the PUR filter on my boat. Works very well. Remember that those
    water vending machines in the stores just use filtering technology to
    clean up tap water. I would search the web for some info. on filtration
    type water purifiers. Maybe you can find something from Consumer Reports
    or something similar and independent.

    There are also UV purifiers that kill things in the water with high
    intensity ultraviolet light. They fit in-line.
