For what it's worth I'm using Sikkens household wood stain/preservative.
I bought some at Home Depot here in Canada that the sales clerk said is
used outside for decks, hot tubs and saunas. She said that this version
won't peel off.
It comes in different colour shades and goes on easy with a brush. I
put two coats on my Cape Dory last spring and it looks great.
Through a third party I heard that someone who works in the Sikkens
plant that it all comes from the SAME pot. They just put a marine label
on the stuff for the boat stores.
The household can was a LOT cheaper than the marine label.
