    A pix is worth a thousand words. Forgot I had this. It's a factory pix
    from the 70s of a Westsail 32 with a full suit of working sails that better
    illustrates what took two paragraphs to describe. You can see that there is
    very little overlap of the foresails, which is why you need to fly both to

    Most of us probably fly a larger overlapping genny to make use of the slot
    effect between the foresail and the staysail and just to get some more sail
    up when it's slow out. You can see the difference in the first of these
