I trust liquid column most of all. I checked two dial guages, a Murphy gauge
and an electric sender unit. The two dial guages were OK, but the brand new
Murphy guage was bad (reluctlantly replaced by Murphy who couldn't accept
that they had made a bad gauge), and NAPA had sold me the wrong sender for
the indicator I bought from them. I used a pot of the water on the stove and
a liquid column thermometer to check the temperature of the hot water as I
heated it up slowly.
