=The pump in my Jabsco head needs rebuilding now
=after eight years of daily use.
I got tired of rebuilding our head pump, so yesterday I spent the day
installing our new Lavac head. I don't usually go all "gushy" about a head,
but I don't know why everyone doesn't insist on these beauties
http://www.lavac.com/ . The pump is mounted where you can get to it and has
a faceplate you can remove with a twist to clear clogs. The guy next door
to me has one and in 5 years of living aboard he, his wife, and three kids
have never clogged the thing.
Because the Henderson pump that comes with the Lavac is a regular diaphragm
bilge pump (actually a bit higher capacity than the manual pump in the
cockpit) you can (with the right plumbing and a bit of switching and
shunting) rig it as an emergency bilge pump or set it up to pump out your
holding tank.
While I was at it, I also replumbed the entire system with the white,
odorless--it says, here--sanitation hose.
But good luck on your rebuild. Head work is absolutely the worst job on the
boat.
