    I recall an article and I think a chapter in his book There Be Dragons where
    Reese Paley for some reason had an AK47 aboard a delivery in the Red Sea.
    Something happened, probably popped a shroud, and the top of the mast above
    the spreaders broke and folded over. To save his crew from going aloft in a
    seaway, Reese says he detached the broken stub with a burst from the AK47.
    Guess Belt & Braces sailor ought to stick one in their bosun's bag ;->
    (emoticon added for the humor impaired).

    Later, if I remember right, he tried to flag down some Arab guards in a
    dinghy along the coast by firing a burst in the air. For some reason, they
    didn't come to assist. I've met him at a couple of boat shows. Interesting
    dude.
