Whoa. 75 feet? Easily a hundred or more if you do it right. Its not
volume that's important in this application, its pressure and the focus
of the expelled fluid. :-)

I like "area effect" weapons for this kind of use.
The problem with an offshore assault is that it is very unlikely to be a
single bad guy coming after you, and it is also very unlikely that you will
have enough crew aboard with the determination, training and mental state to
repel a larger invading force.
If its you and your wife, for example, YOU may be able to plug a bad guy.
But if SHE can't handle the weapons as well, then you've got trouble,
because (1) she's a target and if she's hit you WILL go to help her - and
possibly get killed doing so, and (2) you need ALL your people using
personal combat weapons if you're under assault by a superior force.
Area effect weapons are a different matter. You basically have two choices
- disabling people and destroying their transport. The pepper-loaded fire
extinguisher is an EXCELLENT area effect weapon.
Consider this scenario. You're asleep at night and someone boards you.
You're in the cabin. If you have a couple of masks handy you could wait for
the marauders to enter the cabin and discharge the fire extinguisher -
that would absolutely HOSE the invaders and, if you had masks on, you'd now
have their weapons, they'd be disabled, and suddenly the tables are turned.
Now you're alert, awake, and sitting in a cloud of pepper. If one of the
marauders buddies comes through that companionway door he gets a lead
sandwich (courtesy of his own buddy's firearm) to go along with the gassing.
The fuel hosing-down works well too. Get a good fire going on board their
vessel and suddenly you're pretty unimportant to them; their survival is a
lot bigger deal. The only risk is an "own goal" if you get YOURSELF lit!
