First, how can you determine how stong a boat is? Is there some emperical standard for this? All kinds of boats that appear to be inadequate do stuff that the pundits say they shouldn't be able to do.

There are some things that no boat is strong enuf for. If it is the rigging and motor etc. that can be upgraded. But equipment is different from the boat itself.

Some people feel that only steel is strong enuf. We wanted (and got) a solid fiberglass (not cored) boat. In order to go down to the Caribbean there is going to be some blue water stuff. How much I can't say - not having done it.

We are currently running down off the FL coast (avoiding the 30 some non-fixed bridges between Ft Pierce and Ft Lauderdale), hoping to make Miami sometime tomorrow. We don't have a liferaft yet altho we have an EPIRB.
