On both boats we've owned, the number has been
installed by using vinyl lettering (the stick on kind
you can buy at an office supply store) on the inside
of the hull near the mast, then covering it with clear
resin. Cheap, easy, and it's passed muster with the
CG several times. We put the number on our old boat,
since it wasn't documented before we bought it, and
when we bought the Mason (already documented), found
someone had used the very same technique on that boat
as well.
