Seems to me I read that the vessel identification number is supposed to
be installed in large numbers in a very permanent fashion. In my boat
they put it back inside a locker off the cockpit, on the inside of the
hull itself. Looks like they sanded down an area of the fiberglass and
painted it on, then painted over that with clear resin. Or something
like that. The numbers are 4" high at least. I don't think there is
any requirement to put it in the living space of the boat. It should
say right on the web site or the documentation itself somewhere.
