We are a UNIX/Linux shop, here at the hospital, and we're always looking for
ways to work with other facilities that are Microsoft-based. We have found
StarOffice to work very well with most Microsoft Office applications
(import/export), and often use Applixware Office 5 for many Word documents (its
import filters are much better and more reliable).
As for browsers, we generally use Netscape, but I have found Mozilla to work
even better (and use it daily), and it seems more compatible with many of the
sites that are written in Microsoft's FrontPage.
Most, if not all, of these programs are free, or charge very little.
Good luck,
