Hi Folks,
After my dental problem was treated in Norfolk, I continued down the ICW. One afternoon I had 2 choices, pay for a slip or continue on another 15 miles in the dark to a suitable anchorage. I chose to continue on.
I was within 1/2 mile of my chosen anchorage. I knew there was a day marker somewhere ahead and close. I was using my spotlight & flashlight trying to find it. I was going at reduced speed, maybe 2 kts. I just could not find the darned thing. Turns out It was directly ahead of me and obscured by the mast, head sail, and glare from my lights as I searched. I ran into it.
I'm in Belhaven, NC, now awaiting approval from the insurance co. to perform repairs. I expect approval by Monday & hope to have repairs made & be on my way again next week.
The bow rail is very loose and bent, my life lines are hanging slack, and my forestay is sagging. There are also huge scuff marks and scratching along my starboard hull, and creosote that rubbed off the channel marker pole.
I was angry with myself, but what is done is done. I anchored out here near Belhaven and had 2 days of fog that was so dense I could not see the bow of the boat from the stern. I'm at a marina now, courtousy of the insurance co.
More updates to follow once I'm underway again.
