    Hi again everyone:

Synopsis: COOCHI was hauled out in July to redo the deck and various other things in a large (for me) refit. The mast was unstepped, all the deck hardware removed, the deck repaired, antiskid filled and faired, deck/cabin/cockpit painted. cabin portlights reglazed with plexiglass, deck hardware reinstalled, bottom painted, cushion covers cleaned, new VHF coax antenna lead-in installed, cutlass bearing replaced, etc, etc.

The good news is COOCHI is ready to relaunch... only one problem: the forklift (needed to restep the mast) is down for repair to the hydraulic system. So I am spending time doing all the details that I would normally do in the water.

The toe rail has only 5 coats of varnish now and I think I can get another on tomorrow.... I won't get my desired 10 coats but maybe I can apply a coat or two on the way south while lollygaging around somewhere.

AFTER (!!) I re-installed the Simpson-Laurance 510 anchor winch I discovered that the internal chain was broken (OH YEAH, Now I remember, I had to raise the anchor by hand on the trip north in May!!) Dah, I wish my memory wasn't failing me this late in my life when I really need it... The chain is on order from West Marine and should have arrived yesterday but didn't. Hopefully, Monday will be SL510 fix it day....

At a canvas shop I bought a new YKK zipper. I need it for the canvas that spans the gap between the dodger and bimini. The owner was willing to install the zip for $20 but had a three week backlog of work... In three weeks I want to be in Beaufort NC. So I will do it myself tonight after I finish this letter.

I applied the bottom paint to my son's boat today and got covered as usual with green Trinidad. I did him this favor because he is busy in the main cabin painting the overhead. His boat is hauled out right next to mine... He decided to go South again rather than stay in the North to earn money. Since May he has had several good freelance jobs that have fattened the cruising kitty. He and I will head out about the same time but he will be stopping in Annapolis for some sail repair... I will probably continue but meet up with him again in Great Bridge or Beaufort NC.

The weather has been fine lately, The moon is beautiful in the clear evening sky. The migritory fowl fly by every day in the usual Vee formations. I am anxious to leave. My wife will join me after Thanksgiving... I prefer to spend Thanksgiving on the boat.

    Best Regards,

    FRED
