COMMENT
Maybe its just a matter of semantics; but to me the description suggest
running a separate wire directly from the battery terminal through a
disconnect to the starter terminal wheras the electrical panel is wired
separately with another cable
Nowhere do I see a suggestiong to ignore ABYC standards for wiring.
Some cheaper and less complex boats only have one cable to feed both
the starter and the electrical panel.
In fact ABYC is somewhat behind the curve in that the standards do not
really address the special issues created when you do have separate
house and start battery banks.
In addition most liveaboard and long distance cruising boats have
separate house batteries but include some meansa of cross connecting in
the event one set is flat for one reason or another.
Even so the starter cable should be a completely separate line going
directly from the battery terminal to motor not routed through the maion
electrical panel.
Cheers
