    It sounds like you have lead-acid batteries and inadequate ventilation. You
    need to keep those terminals dry and improve the ventilation for the sake of
    your wiring and safety from hydrogen build up. There is a spray sold by
    auto supply stores that puts a film over the terminal to seal it. I've
    never tried it but it would be a good place to start.
